Greetings! “WTF is truly going on, on the moon.” This image, which is a screenshot of a video, came to my attention thanks to a good friend who was compelled to ask my thoughts about the image. The original source of the video remains unknown, so any attempt to investigate or determine the validity of the video is quite problematic at this point, and that brings us to the point of this blog posting. As a direct result of the lack of any original details, the lack of any investigation, and the fact that the image is second-generation in nature, making a definitive statement about what the image does or does not contain is virtually impossible. However, the individual who posted the image, who was, in my humble opinion, speaking out of good faith and being honest, stated that the image made her/him wonder “wtf is truly going on, on the moon.” Perhaps nothing at all, perhaps not, but without proper investigation, we cannot, and should not, jump to embrace less likely exotic explanations before more likely mundane explanations have been shown to not fit the available data. Now, is such a cautious and measured approach “sexy?” Absolutely not. Does a less cautious and more speculative approach provide any definitive answers? Absolutely not. Perhaps, just perhaps, content such as videos and photographs should be carefully examined before making unsubstantiated declarations. Scientists, attorneys, and law enforcement officials take great pains to examine such content, in an effort to keep invalid content from tainting their investigative efforts. The UFO community could learn much from such measures. Thank you for your time and interest.
